Tragic Weekend in Akron: Two Fatal Shootings Under Investigation

AKRON, Ohio — Authorities have identified two victims of separate shootings that occurred over the weekend, raising concerns in the community about escalating violence.

The first incident involved 36-year-old Mashoure Snyder, who was fatally shot early Saturday morning in the Cascade Valley neighborhood. Police responded to a disturbance at an apartment on the 500 block of Carpenter Street around 3:15 a.m. Witnesses reported a confrontation among two to three men that escalated outside. An "older male" reportedly drew a handgun and shot Snyder, who was discovered in a parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 49-year-old man was taken in for questioning but has since been released with no charges filed at this time.

The second incident took place Sunday afternoon, when 21-year-old Keion LaShawn DeGrate was found deceased at Patterson Park, located on the 600 block of Lucille Avenue in the North Hill neighborhood. Police were alerted around 3 p.m. after reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers found DeGrate unresponsive, also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead on-site. Eyewitnesses reported seeing at least one vehicle, possibly an SUV, fleeing the scene following the shooting.
