Lawrence County Man Arrested for Assaulting Firefighter During Home Blaze
Kitts Hill, Ohio — Arnold L. Berry, a 60-year-old resident of Kitts Hill, has been charged with assault and misconduct at an emergency scene after an altercation with a firefighter responding to a blaze at his residence. The incident occurred on Saturday along Private Drive and has drawn significant attention due to the aggressive nature of the confrontation.
Court records reveal that Berry was verbally confrontational with the firefighter, instructing him in an insulting manner to prioritize extinguishing the vehicle instead of the house. Witness accounts indicate that Berry then charged at the firefighter and struck him in the face, leading to a physical struggle that resulted in both men falling to the ground.
Berry has claimed that it was the firefighter who initiated the violence by pushing his finger into Berry’s face before striking him multiple times. This claim is currently under investigation. A third individual reportedly intervened, leading to the firefighter being tackled to the ground.
The injured firefighter was subsequently taken to a Huntington hospital for medical evaluation; however, specific details regarding his condition have not been disclosed.
In addition to Berry’s apprehension, Lawrence County deputies are also expected to file charges against two other individuals — Berry’s wife and son — who are alleged to have participated in the assault against the firefighter.
The situation underscores the heightened tensions that can arise during emergency responses, prompting further discussions about the safety of first responders in dangerous situations. As the investigation unfolds, officials emphasize the importance of maintaining the safety and respect for emergency personnel who risk their lives to protect the community.
