Tech billionaire and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is set to launch his campaign for the Republican nomination for the 2026 Ohio governor’s race next Monday. Ramaswamy, known for his conservative views, plans to focus on eliminating Ohio’s income tax and increasing school choice options, including home schooling. He also aims to implement merit-based pay for teachers and prioritize physical fitness in schools.
Ramaswamy, who hails from Cincinnati and currently resides in Upper Arlington, has already garnered support from national conservatives such as U.S. Sen. Rick Scott and U.S. Reps. Marsha Blackburn and Nancy Mace. Treasurer Robert Sprague and Secretary of State Frank LaRose have also endorsed Ramaswamy over Attorney General Dave Yost, who recently announced his own campaign for governor.
Ramaswamy’s campaign for governor comes after a series of strategic moves, including discussions with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine about a possible Senate seat appointment and his departure from former President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency to pursue elected office. Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, who is now the Lt. Governor, has also expressed interest in the governor’s seat.
With a statewide tour planned, Ramaswamy aims to engage with voters in cities like Cincinnati, New Albany, Strongsville, and Toledo. As he prepares to officially enter the race, his platform is expected to center on conservative values and innovative solutions to issues affecting Ohioans.
