Duke University Provost Alec D. Gallimore has appointed Professor Jungsang Kim to lead the next phase of the Duke Science and Technology (DST) initiative. In his new role as chief science and technology strategist, Kim will work on developing a concrete execution strategy for DST, securing financial resources, and recruiting innovative faculty in science and technology. With over 20 years at Duke, Kim is a pioneer in quantum information sciences and co-founder of the quantum computing company IonQ.
Kim’s focus will be on driving scientific and technological innovation at Duke through DST, which aims to elevate excellence in the sciences through faculty recruitment and retention. The initiative has already recruited or retained over 40 top scholars, with a focus on materials science, computing, and brain resilience.
In his role, Kim will work closely with Duke’s college/school leaders and development staff to further enhance scientific and technological innovation on campus. His experience in both industry and academia makes him a perfect fit for this leadership position within DST.
