Top standouts from Northeast Ohio at the OHSAA Division I boys swimming state finals


St. Ignatius junior swimmer Jude Banks claimed the only individual state title at the OHSAA Division I boys state swimming championships in Canton on Saturday night. Banks won the 100-yard breaststroke event, out-touching defending champion Austin Carpenter by 0.11 seconds.

Banks credited his quick start as the key to his victory, with a strong turn at the halfway mark setting him ahead of his competitors. St. Ignatius finished fourth in the team competition, continuing their streak of top-five finishes for the sixth consecutive year.

Other standout performances from Northeast Ohio swimmers included Kellen Morford from Medina, who finished in the top seven in two events to earn first-team All-Ohio honors. Additionally, Walsh Jesuit, Normandy, Mayfield, North Royalton, Hudson, Solon, and North Olmsted had swimmers place in the top 16 in various events.

Overall, Northeast Ohio swimmers showcased their talent and dedication at the state championships, with strong performances from multiple schools across various events. Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed and represented their schools with pride at the prestigious event.
