Former teacher in southern Ohio sentenced to potential 10 years in prison for abuse case
Caroline Johnson, a former teacher in a southern Ohio school district, has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery and could face up to 10 years in prison. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the sentence, stating that Johnson will also have to register as a Tier III sex offender for life. The charges stem from allegations that she engaged in sexual conduct with a minor while employed at Bloom-Vernon Local Schools in southern Ohio.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, under the state attorney general’s office, conducted an investigation that resulted in Johnson’s indictment. Each count of sexual battery carries a punishment of one to five years in prison. Johnson, who was a coach and intervention specialist at the school district in Portsmouth, Scioto County, will be sentenced on November 25.
The sentencing comes after initial reports by News Center 7 in December, which first brought attention to the case. Johnson’s guilty pleas have sparked outrage and concern in the community, as the allegations have shaken the trust in the school system. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting minors from abuse and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
