Former Rockford IceHogs Duo to Represent Team USA in World Championships – WIFR

Two former Rockford IceHogs players, forward Rocco Grimaldi and goaltender Drew Commesso, have been selected to represent Team USA at the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Grimaldi, 30, joined the IceHogs in March 2023, recording 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists) in 16 games. He also contributed four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in five Calder Cup Playoff games, including an overtime game-winning goal in Game 1 against the Iowa Wild. Grimaldi has previously earned gold medals with Team USA at the 2010 and 2011 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championships and the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship. (icehogs.com)

Commesso, 20, served as an alternate captain for Boston University during the 2022-23 season, achieving a 24-8-0 record with a 2.46 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in April 2023 and joined the IceHogs on a professional tryout. Commesso previously represented the U.S. at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, recording a 2-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage. (icehogs.com)
