GM Issues Recall for Nearly 600,000 Trucks and SUVs Due to Potential Engine Failure Risk

General Motors is recalling 597,630 full-size trucks and SUVs in the U.S. due to potential engine failures that could lead to crashes. This recall affects models equipped with the V8 L87 engine, including the 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, as well as the GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that manufacturing defects in components such as the connecting rod and crankshaft may result in engine damage without warning. The recall follows an ongoing investigation by the NHTSA after receiving complaints about similar issues affecting approximately 877,710 GM vehicles.

To remedy the situation, GM will provide inspections and necessary repairs or replacements at no cost to vehicle owners, with notification letters scheduled to be mailed by June 9, 2025. Vehicle owners can reach out to GM customer service or the NHTSA for more information. This recall follows a prior incident in November involving nearly 462,000 diesel-engine SUVs and trucks due to faulty transmission control valves.
