Claire Danahy, a former University of Massachusetts field hockey player, was recently named to the USA Women’s National Team, marking her first selection. She is the first Minutewoman to join the U.S. Senior National Team since Hannah Prince (2014-2021). A five-year starter, Danahy played a pivotal role in leading UMass to the NCAA Final Four in 2024, earning NFHCA First Team All-American honors after finishing with 29 points, ranking fifth in the Atlantic 10 (A-10). She also led the A-10 and ranked seventh nationally with 13 assists, while scoring five game-winning goals, including a key goal against Harvard that secured UMass’s first Final Four berth since 1992. Danahy received additional accolades, including NFHCA Northeast First Team All-Region and All-ECAC First Team honors.
Danahy is one of 24 athletes selected for the Cathy Bessant International Series against No. 11 Ireland, scheduled for June 7 and 8. U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach David Passmore emphasized the importance of these matches for assessing player performance and integrating new talents as they prepare for the upcoming Pan American Cup. The final roster for the matches will consist of 18 athletes.
