Cleveland, Ohio — As summer approaches, the Climate Prediction Center’s latest outlook suggests that residents of Northeast Ohio should prepare for a potentially scorching season. Released on May 15, the report forecasts above-average temperatures and increased precipitation for June, July, and August.

Ohio is expected to feel the heat, with a 33% to 40% chance of warmer-than-normal conditions, particularly in the Cleveland area. Residents east of the city may experience even higher odds, ranging from 40% to 50%. This summer’s outlook is notable, especially when compared to the typical climate for the region. Average monthly temperatures have historically ranged from 70.4 degrees in June to 74.5 degrees in July and 73 degrees in August, based on a 30-year climate average from 1991 to 2020.

In the context of the nationwide forecast, states such as Texas, Nevada, and Arizona project the highest chances of extreme heat, with odds soaring to 60% to 70%. New England, South Florida, and the Mountain West are also set to experience above-average temperatures.

On the precipitation front, Northeast Ohio may witness a 33% to 40% increase in rainfall this summer. While the eastern two-thirds of the state are expected to receive more rain than average, the remainder of Ohio faces equal chances of normal precipitation. Cleveland typically experiences about 3.83 inches of rain in June, 3.67 inches in July, and 3.56 inches in August.

As the summer unfolds, residents should stay informed and ready for the anticipated weather changes, aligning with the forecasted hotter and potentially wetter conditions.
